When I heard the news that my friend Rachel was expecting, I squealed with delight–and when she proceeded to tell me that there were TWO in there, I needed a little time to scrape my jaw off the floor…I can’t even imagine how she felt about that news. (;  Last week was their big ultrasound and we had the incredibly special privilege to be “in” on the big gender reveal surprise she had planned for her husband and kiddos!  That evening, we met them in a beautiful grassy field near their home.  My knees were shaking as Jeff and I stuffed the official surprise balloons into a vintage humpback trunk.  It was a combination of my heart feeling so THRILLED for them with my brain in simultaneous panic mode…It was SO windy–I was just praying that none would pop or blow away before they had a chance to open it!  I will let the photos tell the rest of the story…  CONGRATS sweet friends!!  We are so thrilled for the new baby boy and girl on the way and so happy that Lola is getting a sister and Ian is getting a brother all at once!! Thanks so much for including us in this happy new memory for your perfect growing family!

We had a wonderful opportunity to recently photograph the lovely Mykala & the amazing floral art of our new studio partner Tara Bailie, owner of A Day in Provence.  Tara’s floral design is always whimsical and beautifully inspired by the time she spent living in Europe.  We simply adore her style and are thrilled for her new venture, opening up our shared studio space in North Minneapolis for occasional sales of handmade & vintage goods.  The very first A Day in Provence Vintage Pop-Up Shop is happening this weekend (March 16-17), and you’re invited to come have a look around! We’ve long admired the soft graceful look of film, the way it beautifully captures color and the way that shooting it forces us to be more intentional artists. In January we had an amazing opportunity to hang out in sunny SoCal and attend a Film Is Not Dead Workshop with Jonathan Canlas.  FIND LA was a breath of fresh air, not only for our business but also for us personally!  We spent 3 days staying in a rad vacation home in West Hollywood, meeting awesome new photographer friends, eating fabulous food, cramming our brains with (almost) everything there is to know about film and playing outside, shooting roll after roll after roll! Not only did this experience demystify film for us but it also opened our eyes to a lot of amazing strategies to make our business more sustainable. We felt truly welcomed into a community of supportive film-loving photographers that extends far beyond the the three days we spent together in person. Perhaps the biggest thing we took away was the importance of making time for personal work, of really seeing and composing, and of finding our voices as artists.  It was such a blessing for us to get away and gain new perspectives in our work.  We would recommend this to photographers new and old, anyone who wants to learn to love or deepen their love of shooting film!
